COFRA

Established in 2011, the COFRA Foundation aims to improve the social, economic and environmental conditions across the cotton and apparel value chain in Asia, Africa and the Middle East.

The Foundation has been generously funding Orbis’s work for over a decade. In recent years the Foundation decided to focus their support on developing child friendly eye health centres in rural Bangladesh, in line with the country’s National Childhood Blindness Project.

The target of establishing two new paediatric centres in the country has now been achieved and surpassed thanks to the COFRA Foundation’s support.

The first centre was completed in collaboration with Ismalia Eye Hospital, Orbis’s long term partner hospital in Bangladesh’s capital, Dhaka.

The second paediatric centre was established at the De’ep Eye Care Foundation (shown below) which the COFRA Foundation has supported for five years from 2011-2016. This sustained funding has meant that thousands of children from five neighbouring districts have had access to quality eye care by Orbis-trained medical and health care professionals.

If your organisation would like to discuss long-term support of an Orbis project we would love to hear from you. Please contact Nilly Sutton, Head of Corporate Partnerships (interim).
